Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags at the free end. This means a hinge weld or hinge itself is pulling away from the post. The gate still swings, but the weight is now levering against the operator arm instead of resting on the hinge line.
• The gate scrapes the driveway or catches on the latch post. Post lean is the usual culprit. Concrete set in expansive clay, which is most of Allen’s soil, heaves and settles with moisture swings. The hinge post tilts, and the gate follows.
• You can see a crack in the paint or metal at a joint. Weld cracks almost always start at the edge of the weld bead where the heat changed the steel. A hairline crack in the paint along that line is the first visible clue.
• The operator arm makes a knocking sound at the end of travel. When a bracket or arm weld has play in it, the arm shifts under load. The knock is metal-to-metal shock that will eventually tear the bracket completely.
• The gate moves but the post flexes at ground level. A gate post that visibly moves when the gate cycles has lost structural connection to its footing. Welding alone won’t fix this one; the post needs to be re-set and re-anchored.

What we do not recommend doing yourself is welding on a gate that carries a DoorKing operator. That gate can be 400 to 800 pounds of steel under spring and motor load.
