BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Allen Owner’s Guide

We repair and replace BFT keypads and intercom units across Allen, typically completing the swap in a single visit with the part in hand. Most BFT keypad and intercom repairs run between $185 and $420 installed, depending on the exact unit and wiring condition. Our techs roll out with BFT-compatible keypads, readers, and intercom modules on the truck, so the fix is usually done the day we show up. The most common discovery point is when a homeowner flips the keypad cover aside on a Monday morning and the display is blank, or the intercom call rings through but voice only works one direction.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has changed their keypad and intercom lineup several times over the years, and the unit on your gate depends on when the system was installed. We regularly service the older MITTO series keypads, the MITTO COOL, the RB series, and the newer EEL and KLEIO touch units. If your gate has an intercom, it is usually the VELA or the older SIRIO paired with a separate audio module at the house. The compatibility gotcha that catches homeowners off guard: BFT uses rolling-code protocol on most post-2008 keypads, which means a used or donor keypad from a different gate will not simply plug in and work, even if the connector fits. The receiver and keypad must be programmed as a matched pair. We bring the programming tool and handle that in the visit, not as a second appointment. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, BFT genuine parts hold up better in North Texas heat than budget clones, but we stock both and we will quote you the difference honestly. Sometimes the aftermarket equivalent is half the price and fully adequate for a residential driveway. Other times we will tell you to spend the extra fifty dollars on OEM because the plastic membrane on the clone cracks after two summers of Allen sun.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Keypad dead or unresponsive to first press. The BFT membrane keypads are weather-rated, but years of direct sun on a south-facing gate in Allen bake the adhesive and flex layers. A keypad that needs three hard presses to register is not a weak battery in most cases. It is a worn contact membrane, and the fix is a new keypad.
  • Gate opens fine from the remote but not the keypad. This points to the keypad’s transmitter or its pairing to the control board, not the gate operator itself. If the remote works flawlessly, the keypad is the failed link. We confirm this in under ten minutes with a signal test.
  • Intercom rings the house but you hear static, nothing, or one-way audio. On BFT VELA and SIRIO systems, the audio module’s electrolytic capacitors are the weak point. After roughly seven to nine years of Texas heat cycles, they dry out and the audio path goes dead. Sometimes we can service the module. More often, a replacement is the honest call.
  • Keypad works but gate randomly opens on its own. This is a voltage leak or a failing relay on the keypad’s control output, and it is a safety concern, not a nuisance. A gate that self-opens for a driveway off a residential street is a liability. We treat this as a repair priority when you call.
  • Display on newer EEL or KLEIO units fades or shows half the segments. This is the LCD driver board or the connection ribbon. It will get worse, not better, and it usually means the numeric screen goes first while the unit still clicks and works in the background.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Allen, plan on $120 to $190 for a BFT-compatible replacement keypad unit alone, or $240 to $340 for the newer touch or backlit models. Intercom module replacements run from $180 to $420 depending on whether it is a single-family audio handset or a dual-channel unit. Labor adds $75 to $110, which covers removal, mounting, wiring verification, programming, and a full function test of the gate through two open and close cycles. We give you one written price before a single screw comes out, parts and labor together. If the wiring behind the keypad is corroded or damaged, we will tell you the cost to restore it before touching it. Every BFT keypad and intercom repair we complete carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it acts up within 90 days, we come back and make it right with no charge and no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

If your keypad has a screw-off face, you can check the battery and clean the contacts with a dry cloth. That is about where safe owner-level work ends. BFT keypads and intercoms run low voltage, so the shock risk is minimal, but the real danger is a gate whose control inputs get crossed during a DIY attempt. A wrong pair of wires can send the gate into a runaway cycle, and a driveway gate weighing several hundred pounds is not something you want moving on its own. Victor Salinas has seen more than one Allen homeowner make a $75 keypad problem into a $900 operator repair by probing the wrong terminal. Metal either holds or it doesn’t, and circuits either stay clean or they don’t, let’s make sure yours does. If you would rather we handle it, call (936) 274-8988 and we will get you on the schedule.
