Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Allen Owner’s Guide

Ghost Controls welding and fabrication in Allen typically costs $240-$560 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked bracket, reinforcing a bent gate frame, or building a new mounting plate from scratch. We stock common Ghost Controls weld tabs, hinge brackets, and frame stiffeners on the truck, and most jobs are completed the same day we arrive. The usual discovery is a gate that sags an inch or two, swings oddly, or makes a grinding sound where the arm connects to the gate post, or a welded seam that has simply let go after years of North Texas wind and weather.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls. But we service their openers every week across Allen, and we’ve learned where their mounting hardware tends to fail first in our climate. Victor Salinas grew up in Allen, back when Watters Creek was open Texas, and he’s spent the better part of three decades welding and fabricating gates across Collin County. Metal either holds or it doesn’t - let’s make sure yours does.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Every Ghost Controls opener we service in Allen shares the same DNA: a 12V or 24V DC arm that bolts or welds to the gate and the post. The welding and fabrication points are the same across the AXE, TSS1, TDS2, and HY Series lines. What changes is the bracket geometry. The AXE single-swing uses a post pivot bracket and a gate bracket with a clevis pin. The TSS1 and TDS2 heavy-duty kits use longer weld tabs with slotted holes for adjustment. The HY series, which shows up on smaller residential gates, uses a lighter bracket that we see crack at the weld more often than the others.

The compatibility gotcha most Allen owners miss: some Ghost Controls kits shipped with powder-coated steel brackets, and some shipped with aluminum. You can’t weld aluminum to a steel gate frame without a proper transition, and that mistake is one we fix more often than we’d like. If you’re not sure what you have, look for a stamping on the bracket or check the magnet test: a magnet will stick to steel, not aluminum. On most residential gates in Allen, a 3/16-inch steel bracket is the right replacement, and we keep both OEM Ghost Controls parts and heavier aftermarket equivalents on hand.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags at the latch end. This usually means the weld at the gate hinge or the opener bracket has cracked and the gate is now hanging on the remaining metal. A quarter-inch sag at the latch is a warning sign; a half-inch means the weld has failed.
  • You hear a popping or grinding sound as the gate moves. The arm is binding against a bracket that has shifted or cracked, and the motor is fighting the misalignment. This is how Ghost Controls gears strip and motors burn out early.
  • The gate hesitates or reverses mid-cycle. A cracked weld changes the geometry just enough to trip the force sensor. Your opener thinks something is in the way when it’s actually fighting its own bracket.
  • Rust streaking runs down from a welded joint. Water got into the weld, and the crack is spreading from the inside. In Allen’s freeze-thaw cycle and spring storms, a hairline crack becomes a structural break within a season or two.
  • The post bracket wobbles by hand. If you can move the bracket at all with hand pressure, the weld is compromised. A Ghost Controls arm exerts significant force; a loose bracket will fail completely, usually at the worst possible time.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Ghost Controls welding and fabrication in Allen, you should expect to pay $240-$560 installed. A straightforward bracket replacement with a new OEM or heavy aftermarket tab, welded in place, runs $240-$340. Fabricating a new gate frame section or reinforcing a cracked steel tube gate runs $380-$560 depending on the steel length and whether we need to remove the gate to the shop. Every quote is given before work starts and agreed in writing - the price we quote is the price you pay.

What’s included with the price: disconnecting the Ghost Controls arm safely, grinding out the failed weld, welding the replacement or reinforcement with proper penetration, priming and painting the repair, reattaching the opener, and setting the travel and force limits. The weld itself is stronger than the original material when the prep is done right. The whole job is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. No paperwork, no arguing. If it’s not right, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There is a safe way to check your Ghost Controls welding without calling anyone. Put the opener in manual mode - the release handle disengages the arm - and push the gate by hand. Watch the hinge points and the brackets. Any movement at the weld joint means the weld is compromised. You can also check for rust streaking and hairline cracks with a flashlight. That’s inspection, and it’s safe to do.

What is not safe is repairing it yourself. A cracked weld on a gate bracket means the gate can drop, pinch, or swing free under load - and a Ghost Controls arm under tension can release with enough force to break fingers or worse. Welding on an attached gate also risks heat damage to the opener’s circuit board and wiring. If you see a crack, a sag, or a bracket that moves, call us at (936) 274-8988. We’ll give you an honest diagnosis and a firm price before any steel is cut.
