Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Allen Owner’s Guide
If the welded bracket, hinge mount, or chassis point on your Linear gate opener has cracked or torn loose, we can fabricate and install a replacement, usually same-day for most Allen homeowners. Depending on the part and the extent of the fabrication, you’re typically looking at $185 to $485 installed, with the price quoted and agreed before we touch a single bolt. Most owners discover the problem when the gate starts sagging, grinding, or shuttering against the opener arm, or when the opener begins straining audibly but the gate barely moves. What looked like a motor problem is very often a weld that finally let go after years of Texas heat cycles and daily open-close torque.
We’re an independent gate company, not affiliated with Linear. What that means for you is we can match the part, fabricate what’s no longer made, and install it without waiting on a factory backorder.
Key Takeaways:
- We stock common Linear mounting brackets, hinge plates, and opener arms on the truck; custom fabrication is usually done in our shop and installed the next day.
- Every installed part is covered by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise, the Keystone Standard: if it’s not right, we come back and make it right, no arguing.
- Upfront pricing, quoted and agreed before work starts. Always.
- Live person answers the phone 24/7 at (936) 274-8988.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Linear’s residential line is mostly the LRA and Swing series, the APeX and MegaCode openers, and the older AE1000, AE2000, and LDO models that are still working driveways all over Allen. The welded components that fail are rarely inside the motor housing. What we see are the steel mounting brackets that bolt the opener to the pad, the hinge plates on the gate frame itself, and the forged arm that connects the opener piston to the gate. On swing systems, it’s usually the bracket at the hinge post; on slide systems, it’s the rear mount where the chain tension pulls against the chassis.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners don’t realize: Linear changed its arm geometry several times over the years. A bracket off a 2012 LRA is not necessarily a bolt-on match for a 2008 AE2000, even though both say Linear on the label. The bolt pattern spacing changed, the arm thickness changed, and on some early swing models the pivot pin diameter is 3/8 inch where later ones are 1/2 inch. Before we fabricate anything, we measure the bolt centers and the pin bore on your existing hardware, then match what’s actually on your gate, not just what the model chart says should be there.
OEM Linear brackets are well-made but increasingly hard to source for older series, and lead times from surplus depots run two to three weeks. In many cases, we fabricate a replacement from equal or heavier-gauge steel than the original, and it outlasts the factory part. If your gate is a newer model still under warranty, we’ll tell you so and point you to the warranty path. If it’s a 15-year-old opener with a snapped bracket, fabrication is usually the better call than waiting on a discontinued part.
Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags two inches or more at the free end, and the opener labors when it moves. The weld at the hinge-side mounting plate has cracked and the gate’s weight is now leaning on the opener arm instead of the hinge post. Every cycle is chewing up the motor and worsening the crack.
- A black line or rust streak runs down from a bracket or weld point. That’s a crack that opened wide enough to let moisture in, then rusted. Once you can see the rust line, the remaining sound metal is often less than half the original thickness.
- The opener arm clicks or knocks at the end of its travel. The pivot bushing inside the fabricated arm has wallowed out, or the arm itself has bent slightly and the geometry changed. The knock is the piston reaching the end of its stroke before the gate is fully seated.
- The gate has to be pushed through the last few inches by hand, or it bounces back after closing. The welded stop plate on the gate has moved or sheared off. Limits and force settings can’t fix it, because the mechanical stop is gone.
- The opener pulls at its base bolts and the pad around it is cracked concrete. The base bracket weld has failed and the opener is now levering against the mounting hardware itself. Left alone in Allen’s clay soil, which swells and shifts with every wet-dry cycle, this worsens fast and can tear the opener free entirely.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For Linear-compatible welding and fabrication in Allen, here’s a working breakdown:
- Standard bracket or hinge plate, stocked on the truck, installed same day: $185 to $265
- Fabricated replacement for a discontinued or odd-size bracket, shop-made and installed next day: $295 to $430
- Full opener arm or multiple-failure repair, re-welding plus new hinge and bracket: $385 to $485
Every price includes the part or fabricated piece, the weld consumables, removal of the failed part, installation, and a full cycle test with the opener re-adjusted. We also have a standing offer, $50 off any repair over $250, which applies to most fabrication work. A senior or veteran discount of 5% applies always, on top of the repair credit. Senior and veteran discount stacks with the $50 off, which is rare in this trade and something we’ve done since the beginning.
What drives the range is simple: how much of the original steel can be used as a template, and whether we’re fabricating from scratch or adapting a stocked part. Both Victor Salinas and our lead welder inspect the failure before anyone quotes a dollar, so the number you’re told over the phone is the number on the bill. No exceptions.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely check before calling us. First, look at the bracket welds with a flashlight and see if there’s a visible crack line or rust streak. Second, wiggle the gate by hand and watch whether the opener base flexes against the pad. That diagnosis costs you nothing and helps us bring the right steel on the first trip.
What we would not do is attempt this repair yourself. Welding a gate bracket under load involves getting the gate properly supported, the geometry set right, and the weld sound in a structural application where a failure means a 400-pound gate swinging into whatever and whoever is behind it. A cold weld on a gate hinge is worse than no weld at all, because it hides the failure until the day it lets go. We’ve cut out plenty of hobby welds that looked fine from the outside and were barely fused inside. If you’d rather not gamble on that, call (936) 274-8988 and we will come see it.
FAQs
An OEM or properly fabricated bracket typically lasts 10 to 15 years in Allen, though gates on south-facing exposures with no shade and daily use may fatigue the steel faster. Texas heat cycles expand and contract the metal every single day, and that thermal cycling is what eventually cracks even a good weld, usually right at the toe of the weld bead. Call us at (936) 274-8988 if yours has cracked and we will fabricate a replacement that’s matched to your gate’s weight and geometry.
Small cracks in low-stress areas can sometimes be ground out and re-welded, but most bracket failures on Linear openers are in high-cycle, load-bearing locations where the surrounding metal is fatigued, so we replace rather than re-weld. We will always tell you which applies to your specific gate after taking a look, and the price is set before we start. Estimates are free.
A standard bracket replacement is a same-day job, usually 60 to 90 minutes on site. A custom fabrication takes a day in our shop, then 90 minutes to install and test on the second visit. We will tell you which one you are looking at before we leave your driveway the first time.
We stock the common mounting brackets, hinge plates, and opener arms for Linear on our trucks, and we fabricate what is no longer manufactured. You don’t need to order anything yourself, and you won’t wait on a factory backorder. Call (936) 274-8988 and a live person will answer, day or night.
Metal either holds or it doesn’t, let’s make sure yours does. If your Linear opener is bolted to a bracket that’s cracked, or you’ve been nursing a sagging gate with a wrench every few weeks, call us at (936) 274-8988 for a free estimate. We’ll look at it, tell you honestly what it needs, and quote you a price before we start. You’ll never wait on hold, never get handed off, never wonder who’s showing up. We have been doing this in Allen for over 42 years, and we plan to be here another forty.
